What to know during your move? I think that you’ve already moved at least once in your life; if not, let me tell you something, it will either be liberating or stressful. There is no in-between. One important tip that you want to remember is that moving won’t be stressful once you have your plan. Different firms provide these services, and believe me, it will be worth it to contact one if you are busy.
Before you start with your processes, they will want you to know your responsibility as a mover whenever you contact a firm. To have an effortless move, you have to know your rights and your responsibility.
Estimation:
You need to receive an estimation from your movers. They should provide a list of all their services; some movers offer tailor-made services, so it is good to see where their services fit your budget. Do not estimate yourself because you may be shocked when the bill arrives and do not understand why it costs so much.
Ask about the prices, but do not feel content with oral pricing; ask for written estimation so that all of you are on the same page. You will be confronted with two terms when carrying estimations; binding and non-binding estimates. Binding estimates include every cost, so it is the total bill, while non-binding is less accurate.
If you have a tight budget, it is better to go for a binding estimate to know what to expect; if you go for a non-binding while on a tight budget, you may find yourself going over your budget.
The means of payment shall be discussed beforehand with the mover.
Verify Your Documents
Just as with any papers, do not sign right away, even if they read the papers with you. It is better to read it personally and to understand it thoroughly. Ensure that you have spoken about each point with the firm. Do not sign an uncompleted document and ask for a copy if possible.
These are security measures to be safe if there is a problem concerning the move. You do not want to find yourself packed with all of your boxes but not moving firm.
Watch Over Your Shipment
Each of your packages may be weighed, and you want to be present whenever they are weighed. If any doubt arises, request that they re-weight it; after all, it is your money, and you do not want to get tricked. You should also want to clarify the mover responsibilities if your belongings get lost or damaged.
As I mentioned earlier, talk to them and request to have all of these written. You want to have proof of everything. Having 5 loss boxes will be a nightmare, and you do not want to go through that.
Know Your Dates
There is a service known as reasonable dispatch; this will ensure you that the firm is agreed to be pickup and delivered on specific dates and reasonable hours, which of course, should be discussed beforehand.
Some people fail to talk about pickup and delivery and find themselves constraint to deal with hours and days that they are busy. If ever you are busy on that day, you should have a representative. Also, if there are any changes regarding the move, the mover firm should be promptly notified.
